The pervasive nature of mass incarceration in the United States creates a far-reaching devastating impact not only for the individual who is incarcerated but for the family and community from which they were removed. Over 7 million children have a parent on parole, probation, or incarcerated. The impact of parental incarceration can lead to a host of negative health and well-being outcomes for youth, including being funneled into the school to prison pipeline, if the proper support and interventions are not received. This workshop in the Social Change Lecture Series will explore the impact of mass incarceration for children and youth who have a parent or caregiver in the prison system.
