This training for service providers reviews information about the transition into foster care for youth, and highlights STAT–a mental health screening and assessment program, located at the Alameda County Assessment Center. Children taken into protective custody by Alameda County Child Protective Services or the police are brought to the Assessment Center, a child-friendly receiving center where children can comfortably wait until placement with a relative, foster home or group home is found. This training provides an overview of STAT and issues that face foster youth in the milieu as well as ways to support youth during the acute transition to placement.
