This two day SAFE training provides home study practitioners with unique strategies with information gathering tools, analysis tools and procedures that enable them to produce industry-standard home studies in an efficient, uniform manner and yet produce a more in-depth, concise and comprehensive report than a traditional home study. SAFE is an evidence-based, structured home study methodology that allows child welfare agencies to effectively and systematically evaluate prospective families for foster and adoptive placement. Using research-based tools and processes, SAFE allows even the most novice Home Study Practitioner to do a thorough job evaluating prospective families. Which, in turn, allows for better family matching for the child.

Objectives:
  1. Participants will reflect an understanding of the 4 components to SAFE; Information Gathering Tools, Structured Analysis, Pre-Formatted Home Study Report & the Compatibility inventory.
  2. Participants will learn the SAFE philosophy of proper home study writing methodology.
  3. Participants will practice skills, including question development that are key to interviewing and engaging families particularly around difficult questions.
