Training will focus on youth who live in racially and economically challenged communities who must also cope with the effects of historical trauma and intergenerational racism. These children are more likely to: live in poverty, be placed in foster or substitute care, be exposed to both familial and community violence, lose a loved one to violent death, have a family member incarcerated, experience contacts with police and the justice system or become homeless. Challenges that present specific barriers these youth face in obtaining needed services will be discussed. Participants will be provided historical and present day issues that at risk youth face. Protective factors for service providers and caregivers to ensure at risk youth live successful, happy lives despite their adversity faced will be given.
