All children in foster care have been exposed to some form of trauma. However, many children in foster care have experienced more than one form of trauma or repeated trauma. Foster parents who do not understand the effects of trauma may misinterpret their child’s behavior. By understanding trauma, foster parents can help support a child’s healing and the family as a whole.
