2 Day Training

Attendees will learn foundational Motivational Interviewing skills/concepts and engage in 2-3 different exercises, per skill domain, to reinforce learning. Skills/concepts will include:
  1. The Spirit of MI
  2. The four processes of MI
  3. Value work
  4. Assessing client communication (sustain talk, change talk, discord)
  5. Open ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries
  6. Change plan
Attendees will discuss engagement/retention challenges, specific to children in the foster care system, and identify MI skills to increase positive clinical outcomes. Attendees will process their experience of each skill domain in order to access a deeper understanding of their own MI strengths and areas of potential growth/focus.

Day 2
  1. Trainees will identify 2 OARS skills (open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries) that they will use in the next 30 days.
  2. Trainees will be able to verbalize the reflection process.
  3. Trainees will establish a practice Change Plan.
