This course is intended for participants who hope to become trainers on Motivational Interviewing, or who hope to gain a deeper insight to MI to apply to their work. Attendees will review foundational Motivational Interviewing skills/concepts and practice 2-3 different exercises for each learning domain. Attendees will then process their experience with the exercises, in a small group, and identify which they would like to use in their future trainings. Skills/concepts will include: the core values and spirit of MI, the four processes of MI, value work, assessing client communication (sustain talk, change talk, discord), open ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries (OARS), goal setting/focusing, The Four Processes, and change plans. Exercises will include role plays, worksheets, goal and value cards, readiness rulers, video excerpts, and the use of music and poetry.
