Many system-involved youth struggle to regulate their emotions and can dwell on self-defeating thoughts. Mindfulness is not only a helpful skill for social service providers, foster parents, guardians, and natural support people to practice in order to be present and engaged with system involved youth, but it is also a great skill to teach system-involved youth to practice themselves, so they don’t get lost in their thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness helps teach system-involved youth that it’s possible to not dwell on negative thoughts and emotions.
