This seminar will bring together some specific strategies from infant and child psychotherapy to improve the effectiveness of all social welfare interventions within child welfare. The readiness to consider and even explore emotional experiences and family dynamics can often “open things up” in a variety of situations. Through considering a case, a second area will be discussed: interdisciplinary collaboration and integration. In the foster care system, young children often present with multisystem difficulties—sensorimotor, post-traumatic, socioemotional, and more. The value of interdisciplinary assessment and intervention is often underestimated, and should be considered in most such situations.
