After many years of working with foster and adoptive families, it is clear that there are a few key things that have helped families find greater ease at home. This workshop provides a brief overview of the way that trauma impacts the nervous system, sensory system and youth’s ability to regulate emotions. Understanding typical trauma responses and sensory functioning can really help caregivers make sense of, and respond effectively to challenging behavior. The presenter has worked with foster and adoptive families for more than twenty years, and is an adoptive parent herself. The aim of this workshop is to rethink classic trauma triggers and behavioral recommendations -and to offer strategies that can truly be helpful to children and families to navigate daily family life.
