This course explores legal and ethical issues for licensed professionals working in youth and family services and child welfare. Topics include an overview of liability issues, the sources of procedure in our work, and how to minimize liability. Liability issues specific to youth and family services will be reviewed including consent, confidentiality and mandated reporting laws.

Ethical practice issues in working with youth and families will be discussed. The NASW and CAMFT Codes of Ethics will be reviewed with attention to relevance in youth and family services. The California Business and Professions Code unprofessional practices are provided. An ethical decision-making model will also be discussed with practical applications to youth service providers.
