Identifying and understanding intergenerational and historical trauma and using trauma informed best practices are key to supporting systems involved youth and their families. Through this training, participants will gain insight into how trauma can be passed down through generations and its effects to system involved youth today. There will also be a module that explores historical trauma for marginalized communities. The workshop concludes with models on trauma informed best practices that can be used when working with those system involved youth who have experienced intergenerational trauma. Through lecture and breakout group discussions, participants will explore their own experiences with these subjects and create action plans to counteract the effect of these experiences to improve the effectiveness of support for system involved youth and families. Continuing to explore intergenerational trauma effects can help those who support system involved youth and families better understand and facilitate healing and improve outcomes with them.
