Humans have a lot in common about how we receive and process sensory information, yet we are neuro-diverse, with our individual idiosyncrasies. Sensory processing challenges may be a result of trauma and/or organic impairment.

Children and youth who are or have been living in foster care may have one or both of these risk factors. Diagnosed sensory processing challenges may be identified as an aspect of being on autism spectrum. Undiagnosed sensory processing challenges may look like disruptive behavior, low motivation, or struggles with attention and relationship.

This training offers creative response strategies to increase regulation and sensory integration. Experiential learning will include gentle movement and conscious breathing; making art; time outdoors; and a variety of “sensation stations.” Visual case examples and lecture integrate years of clinical and personal experience, neurobiology & research.
