By attending this course, attendees will have a basic understanding of the Child Welfare System (CWS) and Child Protective Services (CPS). Participants will have a basic understanding of the process of CPS once a report has been filed. Timelines, expectations and guidelines when involved in the CWS will be reviewed. Attendees will learn the reasons why questions are asked during a CPS investigation and the importance of accurate information. Attendees will learn how to engage and provide support to families involved in CWS. Participants will gain a basic understanding of child abuse and neglect mandated reporting in California. Participants will have a general understanding of who mandated reporters are and what their role is in California.

This training will provide practical knowledge regarding reporting child abuse and neglect. Participants will learn their responsibility as a mandated reporter. This training will also provide an overview on information needed to complete a child abuse and neglect report to a Child Welfare agency. Participants will be provided with the document(s) required of a mandated reporter when completing a report in California. The material will be delivered by PowerPoint presentation, short video clips, group discussion, breakout (small group) discussions and participant workbook (handout).
