As participants engage youth in identifying the youth’s presenting needs, what often follows are more nuanced relational dynamics that begin to emerge. Foster youth may at times be reserved in their openness to communicate vulnerabilities and needs. However, as trauma content begins to surface between youth and providers or caregivers, those supporting youth may find themselves struggling to navigate their own emotional reactions. This training reviews areas of nuance for providers to attend to in their work with youth, where dynamics of trauma reactions, implications for secondary trauma, and the impact on relationships is reviewed.
