Day 1
This course provides an overview of human sexuality with a focus on youth and young adult sexuality issues. Information about the history of sex is provided. Sexuality and relationship issues through childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, and adulthood are reviewed. Sexuality issues impacting youth and young adults in the child welfare and juvenile justice system are discussed including early sexual activity, gender roles, pregnancy, coercive sex and sexual exploitation, STI (sexually transmitted infections). Information on the love cycle and LGBTQQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and intersex) youth and young adults is also given.

Day 2
Counseling guidelines for supporting youth and young adults are provided including talking about sexuality, promoting sexual health, consensual sex, preventing STI and HIV, LGBTQQI youth, sexual abuse, and intimacy and relationships. Biological perspectives on female and male sexuality including sexual anatomy and the sexual response cycle are reviewed. Adult sexuality and relationship issues are discussed related to love and intimacy, cohabitation and marriage, and living alone. Guidelines for providing couples therapy are also provided.
