Summary: This 2-hour workshop is a special opportunity for mental health services providers to learn the necessary tools to work efficiently with interpreters. We will explore different modalities of interpreting with a special focus on interpreting in mental health services. We will identify the roles, protocols, and ethical principles professional interpreters follow to render accurate and complete interpretations. We will examine challenging scenarios that may occur when there is a language and a cultural barrier and how the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the need for relevant and efficient interpreting services. Finally, we will explore some traditional beliefs arounds mental health and how to provide cultural relevant services to our diverse population.
