This training is designed for providers and other stakeholders who work with LGBTQ youth and want skills to help queer and trans young people navigate the trauma they may internalize from various oppressive social and cultural dynamics. Participants will discuss ways of understanding gender and sexuality, review terms, and practice using correct pronouns, all of which positively impact LGBTQ youth’s relationships with adults in their lives. Then, participants will learn about sources of trauma among LGBTQ youth (particularly those in the foster care system), embody several trauma-informed practices designed to support young people’s healing, develop a set of best practices for their role, and use them to collaborate on a case study.
