Many foster children/youth have experienced trauma and/or are living through ongoing trauma. The training will highlight the use of playful interventions to help children/youth heal through traumatic experiences such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and others. Case examples involving children/youth in foster care will also be used.

This training will highlight the use of play based approaches as one of the choices for intervention, in the continuum of care, when working with children and families who have experienced trauma. This includes a sequence of play-based components that: (1) follows the tri-phasic model of trauma recovery (Herman, 1992); (2) underscores the neurobiology of trauma; and (3) complements current evidence-based approaches in the field of trauma. For each component, the training will describe both a specific service goals and accompanying strategies.
