Through lecture, hand outs and discussion, Presenter will discuss how childhood behaviors are learned with emphasis on mal-adaptive (AKA challenging) behaviors often seen in children with Autism and other disabilities within the population’s practitioners are likely to provide services to. Presenter will also provide information/assessment tools and best practices in assessing these populations.

Objectives:
  1. Participants will peer-discuss assessments with which they are familiar and compare to assessments presented. Familiarizing themselves with the focus of assessments.
  2. Participants will discuss how these assessments will be/are good tools to teach families new and innovative ways of managing and changing challenging behaviors.
  3. Plan assessments with goals in mind, i.e. What outcome do you want from this assessment?
  4. Practitioner will write goals that focus on healing, more so than labeling.
