When it comes to sexualized behaviors in the children and youth we serve, we tend to feel squirmy and uncomfortable with the subject. Sexualized behaviors are common in this line of work, but we tend to avoid the subject because in our polite society they are a taboo subject. Sexualized behaviors can be a daunting issue to tackle and it is important to understand these behaviors are coming from a trauma that is embedded way under the layers of the conscious and live deeply in their subconscious. For many of these children and youth it is likely that sexual abuse has had an impact on their understanding and exploration of a very natural state making it incredibly difficult for them to make sense of their own feelings about these sexualized behaviors. They end up feeling shame, deep anxiety, and fear and this just keeps the cycle going.

In this training we will have a frank overview of masturbation, perpetration, and other subjects that are common to these behaviors. This training will contain some intense emotional content. Some of the content may be very triggering for you. If you begin to feel triggered, please seek out someone you can talk this content through.

This class is an excellent course for resource parents, counselors, therapists, social workers, and child care workers.
