In order to succeed in a culture of oppression, we do not always have the space to be our authentic selves, and frequently the weight of oppression pushes us to deny our true selves and assimilate into the privileged culture(s). Learn to help youth to competently navigate the confusing waters of multiple cultural contexts while honoring their story and their identity. Participants in this interactive workshop will have the opportunity to identify the differences between code switching, assimilation, and authenticity. They will learn to support youth authenticity, and code switching as necessary. Attendees will also consider how to best support those who are facing the pressures of assimilation.
