Foster Care Training

This training will provide an overview of medication management and documentation when working with youth in the foster care system. Children and youth who enter foster care may require psychotropic medications. Depending on the nature, severity and persistence of their symptoms, medication may be indicated as part of an initial treatment plan (as with ADHD, major depression, psychosis and disabling anxiety). Discussion regarding foster parents and youth recognizing when medication evaluations are need necessary, weighing options for medication use, asking questions about their diagnosis and treatment, taking medication safely and documentation and compliance.

Objectives:

1. Presenter will review agency standards and tools used at time of intake to ensure appropriate matching when placing children with medication needs.
2. Participants will learn agency documentation standards, forms and how to appropriately complete paperwork supporting usage of medication by foster youth.
3. Participants will also discuss the most common compliance deficiencies pertaining to medication and documentation – Review Title 22 Standards.
