This training will focus on strategies and techniques around engaging youth in the artistic process of creating hip hop music and lyrical expression, especially focusing on free association and improvised rapping. Trainees will review and learn artistic styles within hip hop including lyrical flow, beat creation and rhyming challenges. These techniques will help youth improve and develop artistic skills while building confidence and expressing their thoughts and feelings in a healthy way. Participants will learn how to lead youth through artistic skill challenges and technique improving practices, practice rapping/singing/ written expression of lyrics over several different beats/instrumentals, practice techniques that teach youth artistry skills while supporting development and growth, be able to support youth exploration of self-narratives and documentation of expression through written lyrics and rapping.
