Through lecture, open discussion and videos, this half-day training will provide a comprehensive knowledge base for understanding the many complex dynamics, variables and challenges when addressing childhood sexual abuse, with a special focus on those living in out of home care; from the profound ways, and differences, that both boys and girls are emotionally and relationally impacted by abuse, to how these early effects are compounded over time and impact the arc of a child’s life, to understanding the reactions of non-offending parents and their enduring impact on victims, to understanding the specific effects of varied types of offender dynamics and behaviors. This training will provide crucial information to anyone supporting sexually abused children by increasing awareness and sensitivity to the child’s trauma and overall experiences, as well as in effectively responding to and supporting each child.
