With increasing recognition nationwide of systemic racism within criminal justice, child welfare, and other systems, it is imperative that white youth work professionals commit themselves to act as anti-racist allies and accomplices, with high levels of cultural awareness, responsiveness, and humility. Integrating culturally based knowledge, techniques and activities into one’s practice and organizational programming, without it being insensitive or an appropriation, is a skill that necessitates on-going attention. While a change in political power has had a significantly positive impact in lowering levels of racist rhetoric and policies, the struggle for greater racial justice continues. Join us at this engaging workshop where we will examine what it means to be an active white anti-racist ally and accomplice to clients and communities of color, including a commitment to address historical oppression and dismantle white supremacy on the macro level while bringing anti-racist practices into your day-to-day work.
