Many mental health professionals recognize the importance of healthy attachment as well as making sure that each child has a secure base from which to learn about themselves and the world. This is especially true in our work with children and youth in foster care. When trauma interrupts secure attachment, the child will experience actual or perceived abandonment by those meant to protect and not harm them. In this course, participants will examine affects of experiencing abandonment; legal, actual and perceived abandonment as well as symptoms in adolescence and adulthood. The group will explore core recovery skills and treatment options, as well.
