Storytelling is the warp and weft of the individual’s life-tapestry, and the unfolding of the collective narrative of a people: In this two-day training participants will learn the power and benefit of storytelling from historic and multi-cultural perspectives. They will examine the impact of trauma on the development of the self in relationship to life goals, hope, resiliency and persistence. Participants will explore cognitive and creative means of retelling the trauma narrative towards positive life outcomes, and will learn, and practice a number of creative activities relevant to both assisting youth make meaning of their chaotic experiences, as well as examine their own lives as individuals and service providers. Participants will begin to appreciate that everyone has an individual and socio-historic story to tell, and when shared, those worldviews and associated behavioural choices make perfect sense. Participants will engage in a series of creative and sharing activities aimed at illumining truth and eliciting compassion.
