This course will prepare you for the exam; explores legal and ethical issues for licensed professionals working in youth and family services and child welfare. Topics include an overview of liability issues, the sources of procedure in our work, and how to minimize liability. Liability issues related to youth services and child welfare will be discussed.

Specific topics will be reviewed including consent, confidentiality, mandated reporting laws, and minimizing personal bias. Ethical practice issues in working with youth and families will be discussed. Transference and counter-transference with also be discussed with guidelines for professional helping relationships provided. The NASW and CAMFT Codes of Ethics will be reviewed with attention to relevance in youth and family services. The California Business and Professions Code unprofessional practices are provided. An ethical decision making model will also be discussed with practical applications to youth service providers.

This training participants will be able to: 1. Describe professional liability issues and how to minimize liability 2. Identify consent, confidentiality, and mandated reporting responsibilities in youth and family services 3. Demonstrate knowledge of ethical practices and guidelines for professional helping 4. Describe key elements of the NASW and CAMFT codes of professional ethics.
