Foster Care Training

Family Finding and Engagement is a practice model designed to build networks of natural supports for youth who are struggling. Although originally designed to assist workers to get youth out of the foster care system and into forever families, this approach can also be applied to any youth who is struggling, in part, due to lack of meaningful relationships and support in their lives. This training will focus on efforts to find natural supports that can join a network of people who will work on behalf of the youth for free and forever. Current brain research suggests that the best way to treat trauma that has been visited on young people is through the development of meaningful relationships. Participants in this training will learn some about modern science related to trauma and brain development and how to search for and find natural supports in order to build healing relationships. We will examine the notion of how connecting young people to their people in order to maintain local cultural practices and connections is an act of justice doing.
