Participants will learn the fundamentals of crisis de-escalation and community based field safety for use during their work with youth and families in care. In this training, participants will be able to identify crisis and unsafe situations, assess the immediate needs, and take action. Exploration around in the moment self-regulation and stress reducing strategies will be provided. In addition, introduction to key resources and learning how to develop a concrete preparation safety plan will be provided.
  1. Explore and utilize three to five strategies to cope and manage immediate stressors and lessen experience of distress
  2. Identify three available resources, self-care strategies and participants’ own safety strengths
  3. Design an action plan to reduce immediate distress and transition out of crisis with goal to return back to baseline functioning in less than 3 minutes
  4. Explore and be able to explain how three various communication strategies can support families in care during times of crisis
